Cell Phones Cause Cancer?

E-mail Print PDF
I'm not as interested in answering the question of whether cell phones cause brain cancer (the jury is still out) as I am examining our response to an initial prospective study on the topic. As consumers of news media, we need to become better informed about the kinds of evidence produced in scientific studies. So, do cell phones cause brain cancer? We don't know. It seems very unlikely, given what we know about non-ionizing radiation, but there's just not enough evidence to declare "guilty" or "not guilty". It's impossible to test the hypothesis "Do cell phones NOT cause cancer", so our best guide will be the number of papers that fail to show a strong link. Clear answers would be easier, I know, but then it wouldn't be science.
