Shocking
Yourself into Shape

Looking to lose those extra inches around the waist
without putting in the time? You are not alone. One of the most recent exercise
fads on the market today is designed to help you do exactly that. The AbTronic, AbForce, and Ab Energizer are just a few electronic muscle stimulator (EMS) devices that have had a recent rise in popularity.
These devices boast claims of a firmer stomach, a slimmer waist, and more
defined abdominals with no exertion whatsoever. The big question is, do they work?
Prior to the
recent rise in popularity of EMS devices for
fitness, they had been used by professionals in the medical field. Doctors and
chiropractors use much larger and more expensive devices to treat patients with
spinal cord injuries and chronic back problems. The purpose is to strengthen
muscles in the afflicted areas. Theoretically, this may lead a person to
believe the miniaturized EMS devices could do
the same thing. Yet, the products on TV may offer more then you bargain for.
EMS devices marketed for fitness will stimulate muscles. Unfortunately, they
will not increase muscular size or cause fat loss alone. Most of these products
are accompanied by an intense exercise and diet guide which must be followed
strictly. Any results are going to be dependent on how well the individual
follows these recommendations and not how much they use the product. Excess or
improper use can be another major issue. All of the devices on the market today
require the use of a gel, and limits are set on the amount of time they should
be used. Without gel or exceeding the recommended time limit, the product is
likely to deteriorate rapidly. Even worse, there have been substantial cases
when people have developed burns and rashes from improper use. Furthermore,
pregnant women and individuals with heart problems should never use EMS devices. So how can you get into shape?
There is no
immediate way to get into excellent physical condition. Fitness should be a
life-long goal rather then a quick, now and again activity. If time is an
issue, your first priority should be reworking exercise into your schedule
rather then looking for the quickest, newest fix. The benefits of a lifetime of
fitness are endless.
